Then, it gives the names and dates of the other children of this family.Ĭontinuing in, in the Vital Records for both Middletown and for Pomfret, CT, I found a huge number of Goodales and Goodells. Goodale, Marcy, daughter of Richard & Mary, b. Looking at the vital statistics for Middletown, CT, (again using the transcribed version in the Barbour Collection-which can be accessed in ) we find the following : Now, this family did come from Middletown, CT. So, the next thing I looked for was Goodale names. And, it clearly gives her mother's maiden name. So, that really solidifies our Elizabeth Scott as to her birth, parentage, and marriage to Thomas Buck. Scott, Thomas, married Marce Goodale, (Mid.?) June 3, 1708, and had. (previously quoted above) on page 197 we find the following: "Glastonbury for Two Hundred Years - a Centennial Disclosure", by Rev. Here Lieth ye Body of Thomas Buck Who Died Augst 30 1732. I will send you a photo of that marker below. In fact, the grave marker for this man is still readable in the Glastonbury cemetery and can be viewed on the web-site of "Find-a-grave". This death would have been 6 years before the marriage of our Thomas Buck to Elizabeth Scott. However, there was one other Thomas Buck living in Glastonbury at that time and he died there on Aug. We have always understood that our grandfather Thomas Buck was the son of another Thomas Buck, but this record, so far, does not give Thomas’ father's name. (Transcribed in the Barbour Collection and posted on ) Glastonbury, CT Vital Statistics Vol 1, p.83. Thomas Buck married Elizabeth Scott daughter of Thomas Scott, May 4, 1738 So, I decided to check the Glastonbury, CT vital records to see if I could truly identify our grandparents as the ones married there, and if so, on what date. I was intrigued by the submission that you, and others, had of our Thomas Buck and Elizabeth Scott being married in Glastonbury, CT, instead of Middletown, (or even instead of Litchfield, CT-which we had thought might be the case based upon the hand-written additional comment in the Endowment House records-even though it was added at a later date by a different hand). I decided that I needed to start all over and begin with the pure facts as we can find and document them. However, I began to question the long-held supposition that our Thomas Buck, born about that time, was the same as the one who was the son of Sarah Judd. But we, and everyone else, had always shown our Thomas Buck to be born on in Middletown, CT as the son of another Thomas Buck and Sarah Judd (who were married in Middletown on, she being from Farmington, CT). So, we knew both of their actual names, including Elizabeth’s maiden name-Scott. You know that for about 100 years, all of our distant cousins (and we too) have repeatedly submitted Thomas Buck's name to the temple as the grandfather of our Elizabeth Buck Garlick, and that is certainly correct as she lists both him and Elizabeth Scott as her grandparents when she did their temple work in Nauvoo in 1841, and again in the Endowment House in 1872. I don't know if it is because of you, them, or Elijah, but I just felt that I wanted to pick up that dead-end again and give it a try. I had a wonderful experience today and think we made a huge break-through on our Buck family going back further than we have ever been able to trace them accurately! First of all, I must say that I have had Thomas Buck and Elizabeth Scott on my mind a lot lately.
